How it all began… If you would have told me a year ago that I would be designing and launching my own underwear line for little girls, I wouldn‘t have believed it, but here I am and I am so excited to share my products with you.

It all started in the summer of 2008. I was potty-training my daughter and was having a really hard time finding underwear that fit her. She seemed to always be pulling and adjusting and no matter what, they would “ride-up”. I tried everything, even buying size 5/6 panties for her (even though she was 2).

One afternoon, we were at my sister‘s house. My daughter and nephew were playing and were so wrapped up in their fun that my daughter had an accident. I didn‘t have a change of clothes, so I borrowed a pair of my nephew‘s gotch. I didn‘t think much of it at the time, but as the day went on I noticed that she wasn‘t complaining about her underwear hurting. I also watched her jump and play around and they stayed in place. The gotch covered her whole bum, which was something her panties never managed to do.

That got me to thinking…why don‘t they make gotch for girls? And so, Girl Gotch was born and that brings me to today. I have been working with designers and manufacturers to get what I believe are the best girl‘s underwear on the market!

Baby On Board Apparel was conceived when founder Ali McEwen’s sister was pregnant with her first child. After seeing that the maternity market lacked apparel that celebrated pregnancy, Ali soon sent on her mission to create something that mommies to be would be proud to wear. With her background in fashion marketing and merchandising she used some of her resources to custom create and produce 50 t-shirt’s which are now known as “The UltraSound Tee.” These were sent to family and friends along with a small survey and a self addressed envelope as part of her market research.

The positive response resulted in Ali creating an entire collection of “Celebration Tee’s” that first launched in April of 2009. At the end of the same year Ali decided to leave her full time day job and follow her entrepreneurial spirit to create fashionable basics for blossoming bellies and take her company to the next level.

Having a vast love for kids and especially her nephew, Bryton who she deems her inspiration, Ali’s mission is to reduce her carbon footprint as much as possible and believes that every little bit helps to preserve the future of our little ones.

Greentainer® is a combined effort.

We are two Toronto mothers who met in 2006. The very gradual decision to pursue this journey came out of the deep concern we both felt about the health of our children (and the amount of plastic they were exposed to everyday) and the environment.

It became increasingly clear how difficult it was to find a natural recyclable food container of quality. After researching various avenues, we were inspired by the age-old Stainless Steel Tiffin in India. Canada was missing out on this environmentally friendly custom. Stainless steel is hygienic, toxin-free, recyclable and reusable.

The idea for Greentainer® took time and effort. A (sometimes tedious) process of revising and consolidating ideas, working around the clock, keeping up with (or not) family duties, feeding/walking/chasing dogs and birds, our focus was to design something more modern and compact. It also had to be non-leaching (at this time the BPA news was only beginning to surface). Greentainer® became a reality by 2007.

There is never a shortage of laughter, nor of interesting people to meet along the way. Her and I are constantly thinking about products we need to create for the Greentainer® line (at times the idea becomes ridiculous). At the end of the day we feel proud of what we have accomplished and what Greentainer® has become. It is sold throughout Canada and now in the United States. Our success is without question the result of the great chemistry we have between us as business partners, the coordination of our strengths and the (sometimes hysterical) laughter about our weaknesses.

Our small Toronto based business is happily growing, along with an apparent movement Canada wide. People are beginning to toss their flimsy, wasteful or breakable food containers, and use alternatives.
